I could not identify what it was until a moment later when my brain recognised it is sound. The sound of St. Nedelia Church bells. It was the only time I heard them and it was amazing.

Instead of Scripture in the curriculum, they should take kids to hear the bells singing. When they do.

The above are bells in Alexander Nevski Cathedral. Much bigger and way too high.

Now, that’s a surprise! Textpattern has a new and clearly improved website. And though I am such a TXP fangirl, I will stop at that.

P.S. I understand that perhaps the logo needed a redo and this one is cleaner and and all, but I will miss the old one. At least for a while.

matthewb:

iA has made available its entire 17-page (paid) pitch document for the redesign of Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger in a detailed article discussing the proposed solution. .. (via Inky)

What I miss is a note on the requirements of the client. Besides that, it is an interesting approach to think about print from the point of view of digital, but in my view, not entirely practical. One example is the top-left to bottom-right reading and the different column count. This can work on a screen but there where a reader bends a newspaper, it may prove useless or confusing.

I did like the “keywords” idea, though. Not familiar with paper printing, but it sounds like a pain the ass. Still, a nice idea.

Bells on a Sunday

It’s what they call the First Advent here.

Frenchman Joseph Kabris, wrecked in the Marquesas in 1796, became a member of the local king’s inner circle, marring his daughter and tattooing himself to show his place in the community.

owl foreigner

—-

In 1804, Kabris was kidnapped by Russian sailors “to be presented to the Tsar Alexander as a valuable object…” He spent the last years of his life in France, exhibiting his body in freak shows and fairs in an attempt to make money to get back to the Marquesas. After he died, an amateur collector of curiosities attempted to obtain his skin in order to stuff and mount it for display. His corpse was buried between two old men to protect it from such attentions.

The case of the French sailor Joseph Kabris (1779?-1822)
