Bulgarian archaeologists say they have unearthed centuries-old skeletons pinned down through their chests with iron rods — a practice believed to stop the dead them from turning into vampires. According to Bozhidar Dimitrov, head of the National History Museum in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, two skeletons from the Middle Ages were found in such a state last weekend near the Black Sea town of Sozopol.

And if I remember well, Thracians used to cut the limbs of bad people who’ve died so as to prevent them from jumping up afterwards and doing further bad things. So it goes.

Mr Blackwell gave me a handful of old letters I have written (he has literally bags of old letters!) and I noticed at the back of one that I have put Shandi instead of my name. It’s a sweet little song, actually.
