“Eli Yishai, Israel’s minister of the interior, wants his ministry’s computers to rest on the Sabbath. Specifically, he wants to prevent people paying their bills online on a Saturday.” —

As an alternative, the minister in charge of government efficiency, Michael Eitan, suggests that the computers be programmed to receive online requests from citizens on the Sabbath but to respond to them only after the Sabbath. But what about requests from Muslim or Christian citizens? Israel struggles to maintain the balance between religion and politics.

*facepalm*

“Just an idea: next time you see something you like, write the person who made it a note telling them so. Even better, explain why.” —Favrd. or actually, Dean Allen. I must admit that the moment I landed on this little page where previously a Twitter app stood, I had this strange feeling of seeing a familiar style. Then I saw the URL. You can tell it’s Mr. Textpattern from just one piece of text :)

And gone back to her ma and pa,
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty.”

“Je les entends rire comme je râle
Je les vois danser comme je succombe
Je pensais pas qu’on puisse autant
S’amuser autour d’une tombe
Est-ce que ce monde est sérieux?”

“The aim of this system is to ease their return to the labour market, to maintain their independence after their time as commissioner,” said a Brussels spokesman. “We want to help them so they don’t have to jump on every job offer on the way.” —

Lord Mandelson still paid £8,600 a month by EU - Telegraph

I wrote something else here but it was too obscene for my own taste.

“If your web “design” isn’t solving quantifiable issues, then it isn’t design, it’s “decoration”.” —

I really liked that comment from under yet another pseudo-visionary Smashing Mag article

And while mentioning Smashing — they have established themselves as a decent source of linkages to external resources, but their attempts at constructive design thinking are regular flops because they don’t seem to understand the nature of what they are writing about.

Some of it is a backup to my points from last night’s discussion. But, even if you didn’t have to argue with me, it’s a good watch anyway.
